If you have read any of my previous posts, you will already know how much I love good quality, helpful and informative content. Furthermore, it is the foundation of any good online marketing campaign. But there exists a misunderstanding that ‘content’ is limited to articles, with lots of words to help with SEO, but this really isn’t the case… Here are a few different types of content that are useful and effective.
Video content is so valuable; a video now appears in over 70% of search results and people are 73% more likely to watch a video than read a paragraph of text. But video is ONLY effective if it’s engaging, informative and helpful. Our advice; keep it short and make a clear point. Here is an example of a great video that we found ticked all the right boxes:
Stunning imagery will attract more people to your posts. Users are 53% more likely to click on a post or link to a web page if it has an image. But make sure the images are good quality and relevant, and if at all possible try to avoid stock or library imagery, it is dull, predictable and is not, in my opinion, “high quality content”.
Imagery is particularly important if you are running an ecommerce website. Consumers like having visual reassurance of what they are buying, so the more product images the better.
Case studies are a great way to present your business and how you work. Avoid the conventional “we did this and then we did that” format, it’s boring. Try to inspire and motivate… give the reader a good feeling, make them confident that picking giving you a call is the right move. If you can get a real and heartfelt testimonial from a customer, so much the better. Take a look at our case studies for example.
Infographics are a modern way to present information visually, and are increasingly popular. They make great posts on social media, although their apparent simplicity belies the degree of design skill that is required to make them work. Here’s an example we like:
As you can see there are plenty of different types of content that you can add to your website and social media pages. Mix it up, try them all and see which ones work best for you… and importantly, enjoy it. Odds are it’s the ones you enjoy creating are the most successful!
